I can't imagine anyone on this board not pulling for this lady. Here's the link if you haven't seen it yet: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZYI'm sure you'll at least find it entertaining.

I know this will sound harsh, but do you not think the only reason Susan Boyle has become famous is because of her apperance, and the fact she is an alright singer?

That's pretty close. I'll just expand on that a bit. She does have, I think, a pretty good voice, not a great one.
She came on to the stage, got fake whistles for her looks, admitted she was 47 with a tone of "yeah, I get it", got laughed at when she answered the question about her hopes, and then sang well enough to show that she had decent enough talent to compete legitimately.
She basically shut up a bunch of shallow a-holes. And the shallow a-holes seemed more than happy to be put in their places. And that's what, I think, most people in this image/approval addicted world were greatful for.
She also seems like a very down to earth, life-long underdog, decent lady with a positive attitude. Hard not to pull for her in the moment. But, I guess the moment has passed.

Sad that I heard she had a breakdown and had to go to hospital - well, Judy had the same thing.
Isn't her name so similar to...Susie Boyt???! Are they not the same person?
One of my favourite songs is 'Memory' it is always one that tugs at my heartstrings whether I am listening to it or singing it myself. I think Susan had that gift. She just had a chance to display it, and I think...not many people have that.
When I think of the gift, I think of people like MJ, Bette Midler, Karen Carpenter, Judy Garland, and Elvis Presley (when he sings gospel).
