The environment and the people. But even when she went to NYC and London she took ppl with her that were bad for her.

I think she was better off out of Hollywood. It was sad how she never got to go home.

Do you think Judy was a bit of a drama queen? I was thinking about this as I catched the end of 'Confessions of a teenage drama queen' on tv the other night with Linsay Lohan.
Moral of the story : New York people are cooler than boring suburbanite New Jersey people.
try as I might, I'm not in love with New York. Even hundreds of episodes of Sex and the City won't change my mind - no matter how 'fabulous' they try and make it..Judy was better off in London, away from the fake people.
Living and growing up in Hollywood just warped her sense of reality. She lived the high life but she didn't have any money..any she did make was gambled or drunk away by her husbands.

As Judy got older she didn't mix with good people..she was part of the rat-pack, she got involved with booze-up parties and late night riff-raff, when she was broke and homeless she depended on the kindness of strangers and skipped on hotels. She was estranged from her mother and sisters and had no family on her fathers side - they would have nothing to do with her.
I don't know if she cultivated any kind of relationship with the families of the men she married. What could her husbands family do with a daughter-in-law like Judy Garland? It is a wonder that she survived being alone for any length of time. With practically no family, Judy depended on her managers, by living a parisitic existence from exploiting her name. She couldn't marry anybody who made their own living..I wonder why so many people seem to want stardom when the price you pay for it is so high, if Judy is anything to go by. I think Judy's flaw was she wanted fame over and above everything else. Being a serious actress, or musician? No, fame would do.
Linsay seems like a nice girl led astray. I'm sure most people starting out on the road to stardom never dream their life will turn out a huge media-fest, most people just want to do their job rather than live off the trappings of fame. Judy ended up living off the trappings.
